This page explains how CleanThisWay researches, writes and updates its guides.
Sources
We base instructions on product care labels, manufacturer use-and-care manuals and support pages, and guidance from recognized organizations such as the American Cleaning Institute (ACI), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and university cooperative extension programs. We link to the sources we used at the end of each guide.
Accuracy and safety
- We state which materials a method is and is not suitable for.
- We recommend a spot test in a hidden area before using any method on a valuable or delicate item.
- We never recommend mixing bleach with ammonia, vinegar or other acids, or mixing different drain or toilet cleaners.
Updates and corrections
Every guide shows a last-reviewed date. If you find an error, email us through the contact page and we will review it promptly. Material corrections are noted at the bottom of the article.
